J.D. Eaton Award

 

Margaret Allan (BA(Hons.)'82, MBA'95) is a long-time friend of Memorial. She has served on several committees.

In 2017, she was appointed to the Board of Regents, bringing her experience in financial affairs, human resources, infrastructure projects and strategic planning. She carried out committee roles including chair of the Human Relations Committee, member of the Campus Planning and Development Committee and member of the Core Science Facility Capital Project Governance Sub-Committee.

She served on the Marine Institute (MI) Industry Advisory Committee, making a considerable and direct impact on MI’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lens, particularly as it pertains to student recruitment, placements and retention. Ms. Allan championed advancing the EDI lens within industry advisory committee discussions, leading to enhanced measurement, reporting and tracking of EDI information at MI.

She also spent 11 years on the Genesis Centre Board.

Ms. Allan also sits on the School of Music’s advisory council and has volunteered for various university events and activities, including a role as canvasser with the Office of Development during the Dare To capital campaign from 2011 – ’12, when she was a Memorial ambassador during the campaign, opening doors, talking to perspective donors and encouraging others’ support for and engagement with Memorial.

Ms. Allan has over 36 years of public and private sector experience in the natural resources sector.  Since retiring from full time work, Ms. Allan has focused her volunteer and board efforts on local arts organizations, including Business and Arts NL and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.  She currently serves as Chair of The Rooms Corporation, the crown corporation responsible for the provincial museum, art gallery and archives.
