2nd Annual Royal Newfoundland Regiment/MUN Bands Conducting Workshop

Join us for the 2nd Annual Royal Newfoundland Regiment/Memorial University Bands Conducting Workshop. Memorial University Assistant Professor of Instrumental Conducting, Dr. Dylan Rook Maddix will lead the session, working with conducting candidates from the RNFLDR Band and Memorial University graduate conducting students.
Everyone is welcome, and there is no entrance fee! However, pre-registration is required due to building security.

Join The Rooms and Memorial University for Dialogue and Debate: The passion and the past of the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador. Featured debaters: Jane Walker (BFA'15), Director, Grenfell Art Gallery, Memorial University and Dr. Jeff Webb (BA'85, MA'87), Professor, & Head, History Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Memorial University.

Rabble Rousers: Black Liberation History Talk Series Mar. 21
Join us for the second session of the Black Liberation History Talk Series, hosted by the Department of Gender Studies, as we explore Creative Black Feminisms: Art, Resistance, and Revolution Across Time.
Our guest speaker, Collette (Miss Coco) Murray, will illuminate how Black women have used creative expression as a powerful tool for survival, self-definition, and radical transformation. Miss Coco brings a wealth of expertise as a multi-award-winning artist-scholar, cultural arts programmer, dance educator, and arts consultant.
Together, we’ll explore the boundless creativity and defiant spirit that have fueled Black feminist resistance across generations. We look forward to seeing you there!

Breakfast with the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador Mar. 24
Begin your day with Newfoundland and Labrador's premier, the Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, in the heart of Toronto's entertainment district. Premier Furey will join alumni and friends of Memorial University for a discussion about the province. Guests are invited to bring questions for the Q&A which will follow the talk.
Tim Powers, host of podcast The Tim Powers Show on VOCM and commentator on CBC'S Power & Politics, a member of Memorial's Board of Regents and chair of Summa Strategies will moderate.

Rabble Rousers: Gender and Global Health speaker series: Caring for the Psyche in African Feminist Praxis Mar. 25
Join the Department of Gender Studies for the third event in their Gender and Global Health Speaker Series, featuring Jessica Horn, feminist thinker and author of African Feminist Praxis: Cartographies of Liberatory Worldmaking (2024). Drawing on decades of experience supporting activist movements and shaping policy, she will explore the relationship between gendered structural violence and well-being and offer insights into decolonial approaches to understanding and healing trauma and sustaining flourishing inner lives.

A Century of Politics and the Next 100 Years Mar. 27
As part of Memorial University's centennial celebrations, the Department of Political Science is hosting a public event to showcase and celebrate the contributions of past and present members of our community. This event will span two evenings of "lightening talks" on six distinct topics, highlighting critical discussions by a trio that includes a faculty member, a current student and a prominent alumnus. Moderated by Adam Walsh, host of The Signal on CBC Radio.

Salaam B'y - A Night to Celebrate Kindness Mar. 27
Join us for a special screening of the award-winning short documentary by Clarenville’s own, Aatif Baskanderi (B.Eng.’08, MTM’15), Salaam B'y – A Story of a Muslim Newfoundlander.
Aatif shares his inspiring story of inclusion as a Muslim child of Pakistani newcomers in Newfoundland, highlighting the theme of “Communities of Kindness". Following the film will be a discussion with Aatif and Zach Goudie on communities of kindness, like the one he grew up in!

Coast Lines and Coffee (Book Club)

Coast Lines, Memorial University’s popular public book club, will host a secial event at the Emera Innovation Exchange (Signal Hill Campus) to celebrate the rich literary history of Newfoundland and Labrador and the role Memorial has played in fostering and shaping the province’s literary community.
The event will feature a panel of esteemed current and former faculty members and writers – Mary Dalton (MA’75), Lisa Moore, Aaron Tucker – who will discuss the intersections of Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador’s writing and publishing community and the 40th anniversary of the creative writing program, in conversation with writer, broadcaster, and Coast Lines alumnus William Ping (BA '18, MA '20).
The celebration will recognize Memorial’s past contributions to a province with a rich cultural history, while simultaneously setting the stage for its continued impact on the literary world.

Living Memorial: Memorial University and the Meaning of Remembrance
Apr. 26
Memorial University was founded as a living memorial to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War. As time passed, the university was rededicated to memorialize those who served in the Second World War and subsequent conflicts as well.
This event will bring together speakers from various backgrounds to explore the significance of remembrance—as a founding principle of the university’s identity and in a broader cultural context. Through shared stories, historical reflection and discussions on the evolving nature of commemoration, we will consider how Memorial continues to uphold its obligations to both the past and the future.
Following the panel attendees are invited to join us for a reception in the QEII Library lobby, where staff will host an exhibition of our WWI artifacts and special collections.

Faculty, staff and students on all campuses are invited to participate in this internal forum and engage with the Office of Indigenous Affairs in conversations around the Strategic Framework for Indigenization (SFI), our respective roles in reconciliation, and some of the work that has been underway here at Memorial in years past, currently, and plans for moving forward with this important work.

100 Years of Careers will celebrate the contributions of Memorial and the Marine Institute to the rich history of marine careers in Newfoundland and Labrador. This event will be held at the Marine Institute and invite students from grades 10, 11 and 12 from across the province to attend. It will also be an informative and engaging event for parents, guidance counselors and career teachers. By opening our doors to the community, we will create better awareness of marine careers while sharing the auspicious 60-year history of the Marine Institute. Historical booths will highlight the history of the fishery, and our student guests will be introduced to the roles marine careers will play in shaping the technological advancements and environmental concerns that will secure a sustainable future.
