Current Funding Programs

The Harris Centre runs two annual programs with rolling applications, meaning there is no deadline. Applications for these funding streams may be submitted at any time, and will be assessed and awarded until all funds for that year have been disbursed.

  • Cabot Martin Award 
    Eligibility: 
    Memorial faculty, staff, and students
    Amount:
    $20,000
    Overview: 
    Established in honour of the late Cabot Martin, a business leader and public servant with a tireless commitment to democracy and the long-term sustainability of our province, this annual award encourages practical applied research into the complex challenges facing Newfoundland & Labrador. Applications due November 1, 2024

  • Community Hub Programming Fund  
    Eligibility: Memorial faculty, staff, and students
    Amount: up to $10,000 per project
    Overview: Community Hubs are a network of sites across rural NL that provide community members with learning opportunities through Memorial University. This fund provides up to $10,000 to Memorial affiliates to develop and deliver original programming at one or more Hub location. Hub users have expressed interest in programming related to health, tech literacy, arts, mental health, and anything fun and engaging! 

  • The Community Scholars Fund 
    Eligibility: Memorial faculty, post-doctoral students
    Amount: $10,000
    Overview: Each year, this fund sponsors up to 10 scholars-in-residence to reconnect with our province by spending 8-10 weeks in the small towns that make Newfoundland and Labrador unique. The goal of this program is to build stronger connections between MUN reserachers and NL communities, to advance current work, and to inspire new research that benefits the people of our province.
