Inheritance of
Sex-linked traits in Drosophila
TH Morgan
was at first dismissive of Mendelian genetics, because
it lacked any physical basis. His mind was changed instantly
by the discovery that rare white-eye trait
in the fruit-fly Drosophila melanogaster behaved in
crosses exactly as predicted if it were the recessive
allele of a gene located on the X
chromosome. Morgan received the 1936 Nobel Prize for
his development of Drosophila as a genetic
investigatory tool.
